With a history of floristry in the family, Emily has always been inspired by horticulture and spending time outdoors.
When lockdown hit, we all spent a lot more time at home. This led Emily to working in soft landscaping before becoming a professional garden designer after transforming her own garden in East Yorkshire.
Since starting the studio in January 2023, work has grown organically across East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. Most clients choose to work with Emily after seeing her previous work and are excited by her style and approach to designing gardens.
Whilst the studio's main clientele are homeowners and private individuals, we also collaborate with architects, developers, and landscapers on a range of services. We are members of the Association of Professional Landscapers, reassuring clients that we have been examined on the creative, technical and horticultural skills you would expect from a professional garden design studio.
Our "one stop" approach to soft landscaping has also proved popular, suiting clients that want their existing hard landscaping to be softened and combined with appropriate, well designed planting.
Now in 2025, Emily and her team are booked to work on a range of exciting projects in East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and further afield and we would be delighted to hear from you too.
Choosing Emily to design our garden was one of our best decisions ever. From the outset Emily listened attentively to our brief and came up with some great creative suggestions which reflected exactly what we had hoped our garden would look like.
Emily is not only a super talented garden designer, but she is also charming to work with and made the process of designing our garden a very enjoyable experience. We spend every minute we can in the garden and are so looking forward to seeing it mature – it’s surpassed our wildest dreams!
We asked Emily for something that was quite unusual and she certainly came up with the goods! From start to finish, all at Emily Joy Garden Design were responsive, helpful, friendly and polite.
Communication and customer care were great. Emily was always available to answer questions and always delivered what she promised.
Be warned!! This girl can read minds and really is a complete JOY to work with!
We approached Emily earlier this year for help & guidance in transforming our Beverley new build, blank canvas & boring rear garden. We immediately felt at ease with her & the only real brief we could give her was that we’d like the space to remind us of a home we owned in abroad.
We’d had chats about how that could look between us & so when Em came up with very similar ideas we were a bit blown away & it was a very easy yes to signing up with her. What followed was a very seamless process, fantastic communication & assurance at every stage.
Despite tight timescales she met with us, understood and improved the brief and delivered a garden design which met our ambition and exceeded our aspiration.
We have since recommended Emily to other clients and are confident she will bring benefit to any client who uses her services.
I recently contacted Emily to help with our front garden design and in particular give us ideas for how to address an ugly concrete panel under our picture window.
Emily created a moodboard and one of the ideas was an image that used corten steel to create a frame, this idea developed to create gates & bin screen, she then came up with a planting area in front on the house, so it was softened and we worked collaboratively and gave me lots of good advice and then the planting was over to her team.
Every day I get the joy out of looking at what is coming through and watching it grow and also watching the corten change colour too. I highly recommend Emily - she tuned into what we wanted and exceeded our expectation's, we now have a great template to work from for many years to come.
